Pre-Harmount Warm Up Paddle Saturday 30 August
Aug 27 2008, 10:20 AM EDT Victor has this great idea to do a practice run for the Harmount this Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Launch is from Old Port Beach at 8:30 a.m. sharp, down to Pismo pier and back to land at Old Port. This makes it about a 12 mile paddle total, which is actually double the Harmount distance. Come join the group for all, or even part, of the trip. Victor, if I get clearance from the doctor, I will definitely be there! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Aug 28 2008, 7:19 PM EDT Hey Tiff, I sure hope you get cleared by the Doc......It wouldn't be the same paddling all that way without you. I wonder if Ralph, Harvey, Drew or anyone else is going. Jim Atchison and Karen from Nipomo is going and so I atleast know there's 3 of us so far. I hadn't heard from you since before your last Doc visit......Hope all is well with you. Aug 30 2008, 7:36 PM EDT Hey Victor, I hope you, Tiffany and the rest had a good paddle today! I was working towards joining all ya out there but the clock just sped past me for making it there on time. Our Catalina trip was put off for another wknd since Mark couldn't make it last minute. I heard the weather was calling for some pretty good winds out there today. 10 to 15 kts increasing to 20 to 25 kts by afternoon w/ possible gusts up to 35. Top that with 7 to 9 foot swells and man that is one helluva pre-harmount warm up coming back to Avila! ;) Hoping you made it back early enough to miss all that. Aug 30 2008, 8:13 PM EDT REy, Nice to hear from you.....We had a great day. The wind came up during the last half our or so. There were 7 of us and we missewd you. Harvey, Andrew, Tiff, Kathy, Karen, Jim and I. According to my GPS, I recorded 14 miles and moving time for me was 4hr. & 27 min. Most of it was just cruising and visiting. Harvey and Drew broke off at the 5 mile mark. I poured it on during ythe last hour as my back was killing me and I just need to get on dry land. Tiff was paired up with kathy and Jim and Karen were pared up so I knew everybody would be OK if I went ahead and landed, although I kind waited for Jim some. It really was a great day to paddle. Foggy most of the way and really didn't clear up until after passing Shell Beach homeward bound....Water was basically like glass for about 3 hours. Saw a ton of wild life including some very bold adult Otters who performed for us less than 10 ft away for a good 10 min. in the kelp. Well dide, hope to catch you next time round. I'd like to do it again next Saturday..... We'll see, till then, take care. Tiff said she would post pictures as soon as I get them to her. badpaddler 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Aug 30 2008, 8:45 PM EDT Great News Victor, I'm currently spraying my rotomold down with pam after what I just read. ;) I'm definitely gonna need a faster boat by the time harmount hits!! :) Next Saturday sounds great if your up to it. So glad to hear about the conditions since all I could do is read about it here. What a turnout and a day to have it, huh! Sorry to have missed this one but will be back out again soon! Thanks for getting back! Catch up to ya soon!! P.S. I'll bring the air horn if you bring the stopwatch next Saturday! :) Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 30 2008, 10:01 PM EDT Hi guys! Hoo wee! What an awesome paddle today! Rey, it would have been even better with you out there, too! Great write up, Victor! Not much left to add except to confirm what Victor wrote--it was a great day to paddle. The wind and chop the last 30-40 minutes was a bit brutal, but hey, it all just makes for a more interesting day, right? I'm looking forward to the pictures! And Spike (as the otter is called by the Central Coast Kayak guides) was hilarious--he was doing this goofy thing of these "crunches" as if he was trying to work the abs. Crazy guy, he sure is cute. It was a most excellent day with everybody! Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 31 2008, 12:07 AM EDT Oh ya, Slick was "SLICK" what a little performer he was.....Man I must have really been tired. I made more type O's than the Santa maria Times......in my last thread. Oh well, sure didn't change the awesome paddle we had today!!! All Sea launches were super except for karen's, but it was her first time. She did make it throught the surf the second time..... Landings were all very very clean, even Karen's all though she couldn't decide when to do it. Tiff kept saying just do it!!! Well, she finally did. Pictures are on the way...... I took like 90 sump'n pictures so there's a tomn but here come a Dozen Tiff.... Thanks ya'll for a great day in my favorite playground....... badpaddler........! Do you find this valuable? |
